This month I read a really good mystery. Summer is coming, and it's my favorite time of the year to read spooky books, because of the lazy days and rumbling thunderstorms. Summer sets the perfect mood for getting lost in a bone chilling story. So, I decided to start the season off right with this book:
Deep And Dark And Dangerous
By Mary Downing Hahn
(reviewed by Frankie)
Then, Ali's aunt invites her to stay at the family's cabin by the lake for the Summer. The same cabin where the mystery photo was taken. Ali jumps at the chance, despite her mother's fears. When they arrive at the cabin, things seem normal. Ali spends her time at the lake playing with her cousin Emma, and the lazy Summer days take her mind off of the girl in the photo. But then, they meet an unfriendly girl named Sissy who seems to have a frightening affect on Emma, and an irrational hatred for Ali. Ali thinks Sissy's games and teasing are getting dangerous, but Sissy may be hiding a secret that's even more dangerous, and Ali sets out to find out just what that secret is.
My Thoughts:
This book was so good! It had the makings of a perfect mystery- a hidden family secret, a mysterious stranger, and a spooky setting. I really enjoyed it. The descriptions of the lake and the cabin, and Ali's frustration at trying to uncover a family secret really drew me in. It's a great book to read on a dark and stormy night. It was full of suspense, kept me guessing until the end, and I loved it! I think anyone who likes mysteries and ghost stories would also love this book.
My rating: 5/5 stars

Deep And Dark And Dangerous
By Mary Downing Hahn
(reviewed by Frankie)
Summary:
Deep And Dark And Dangerous is about a thirteen year old girl named Ali, who finds a mysterious photo of her mother and aunt as children. Another girl was once in the photo- a girl who's image has been torn out. All that's left of the girl is the letter "T" written on the back. Ali questions her mother and aunt about the identity of "T," but no one will tell her. They say they can't remember, but Ali suspects that they just don't want to remember.
